The press conference is a very important event in the life of a company. It’s a solemn moment during which the company announces to the media (local, national, specialized) information of interest to the general public. Here are three tips for successfully managing your press conference.


Managing the message you want to convey
The first is that when it comes to holding a press conference, the public’s perception of the company itself is what you have to deal with first. If your company is seen as unprofessional or even unprepared, the event will almost certainly discourage the journalists present. You’ll get very few articles, and they won’t necessarily be complimentary. On the other hand, if your company is respected, your press conference will probably be a great success.
Answering journalists’ questions is crucial
One of the most important things to bear in mind is that your conference should not resemble a school assembly. If questions are asked, answer them as quickly as possible so as not to leave other participants bored. Answer questions directly, making sure to emphasize your company’s position on the issue. However, don’t be disgressive. Keep the press conference focused on the topic, so as not to lose anyone’s attention.
Control your equipment
Make sure all press conference equipment is ready and available. Make sure the room is well lit, with no shadows blocking the windows. Don’t tinker with your room during the press conference.
As for lighting, it’s important to have good visibility, as photos will probably be taken and published in the media.
