What’s a worksheet?
A worksheet is a document documenting the auditor’s work on a particular subject. It must be comprehensible to a third party who has not carried out the work, and must enable conclusions to be drawn with regard to the objectives pursued, whether positive or negative.
Referencing enables the worksheet to be positioned in the file’s audit trail. The worksheet enables the auditor to ensure that the procedures implemented are presented clearly and consistently, and to draw conclusions on one or more stages of the work program.
During the course of the engagement, the auditor performs detailed work on many points, on which the overall opinion depends. In order to form this opinion, the worksheet enables the auditor to formulate provisional conclusions on each of the work performed, which can be defended in a discussion with the client or the audit organization.
